SACRAMENTO, CA - The 84-year-old man, who lived on the 4400 block of 6th Avenue, was discovered by a relative at about 8:20 a.m., according to police.
The victim, later identified as Singh Singh, had been attacked, police determined.
Nothing from the home was taken.
Police do not believe the crime was a random act.
Police spokesperson Officer Michele Gigante said no other information would be released at this time.
Neighbors said Singh had lived in his home for about two years. They said he would often go out of his way to help people in the community, making sandwiches and giving them to homeless people or helping needy neighbors buy groceries.
One neighbor who did not want to be identified, said, "He was a good man. Maybe his heart was too big. I hope no one took advantage of him. I'm praying he went peacefully."
