MOUNTAIN RANCH, CA - Two people were found dead in a house fire in the Calaveras County town of Mountain Ranch on Wednesday.
The fire was at a home on the 8000 block of Mountain Meadows Drive. Calaveras County sheriff's Sgt. Chris Hewitt said first responders arrived at approximately 1 a.m. to find the house completely engulfed in flames. Responders were also told two people may have been trapped inside.
Two individuals, both dead, were located inside, Hewitt said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
According to a report in The Stockton Record, flames spread to vegetation and the fire wasn't fully extinguished until just after 10 a.m.
Sheriff's detectives and Cal Fire arson investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire.
Mountain Ranch is situated between Valley Springs and Arnold and about 48 miles northeast of Stockton.
