PLACER COUNTY, Calif. - Firefighters continue to make progress on the American Fire burning in Placer County, containing 88 percent of the blaze as of Tuesday morning, according to a report from the United States Forest Service (USFS).
According to the USFS , the fire has burned 24,935 acres since beginning the afternoon of August 10.
With the increased containment, crews have begun repairing areas affected by firefighting efforts. Mosquito Ridge Rd., Foresthill Rd. and Forest Rd. 43 all remain closed and travelers are urged to adhere to all closures for their safety, as well as the safety of fire crews.
More than 1280 personnel comprised of 25 hand crews, 72 engines, 11 dozers, 34 water tenders and 6 helicopters from various agencies remain in Placer County battling the fire, per the USFS.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
