SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA - A parolee at large probably shouldn't have had a nearly skinned raccoon in his hands next to a local newspaper office.
That was the case for 37-year-old Kevin Burroughs, a registered sex offender from California who was observed with the bloody animal, bloody hands and a bloody knife in an open lot between the Tahoe Daily Tribune and Snow Flake Drive-In Monday afternoon, said Tahoe police.
Officers were called to the unusual site and gave chase when Burroughs ran as they were talking to him, said Lt. David Stevenson. More officers responded, catching up to Burroughs after several blocks and across Highway 50 to the baseball fields next to South Tahoe Middle School where he laid on the ground.
Burroughs was arrested on booking charges of possessing a creature unlawfully taken, resisting arrest, failure to register as a sex registrant, sex registrant on school grounds, and parolee at large. No knife was found, Stevenson said.
