Standoff for suspected armed robber at Natomas apartment complex, Feb. 13, 2013
SACRAMENTO, CA - Two men who were barricaded in a Natomas apartment for two hours Wednesday were arrested after a police standoff.
Sacramento County sheriff's deputies cordoned off the apartment complex at 2011 Club Center Drive.
One of the men holed up in the apartment was suspected in a robbery and wanted in an outstanding warrant. He was identified Thursday by Sacramento police as Kiyen Matthews, 33. Officer Michele Gigante said it appeared the second man was not an accomplice of the the suspect.
A woman backed out of the apartment with her hands on her head per deputies' orders a little before 3:30 p.m.
But the two men still in the apartment did not surrender.
Eyewitnesses said one of the men yelled out to officers that he would not go back to prison and would not be taken alive.
Dozens of residents were evacuated and many others kept out of the complex as they returned home from work.
Shortly after 6 p.m., one of the men gave himself up to police. Moments, the second man surrendered without incident.
Gigante said Daniel Wilson, 28, was later booked into Sacramento County Jail for a parole violation.
It wasn't immediately known what charges Matthews might face.
Gigante said it was the ending officers hoped for.
