Placer High's Eddie Vanderdoes signs his letter of intent to Notre Dame.
AUBURN, CA - Standing 6'3" and more than 300 pounds, Eddie Vanderdoes was not only one of the biggest recruits from the Sacramento area, he was also the biggest prize for some of the nation's top colleges.
Wednesday evening, the blue-chip, five star defensive tackle displayed five hats on a brown folding table in the Placer High School auditorium. He spoke fondly about Alabama, Notre Dame, UCLA, USC and Washington, but when it was time to announce his decision he reached for the Fighting Irish ball cap.
"I think this place is magically and I am committing to the University of Notre Dame," said Vanderdoes to a roar of cheers from his family, friends and teammates.
"It was really tough," Vanderdoes told News10 when asked about his decision. "It came down to them (Notre Dame), Bama and UCLA during the last few days."
A proud moment for the Vanderdoes family.
"I can't describe it," said Eddie Vanderdoes Sr. "You imagine this and you envision this for year. And then at the high school I went to, it is nice to see him flourish in the same place we all went to school."
