CERES, CA - A police pursuit resulted in an officer-involved shooting in Ceres early Friday morning.

Sergeant Patrick Sullivan of the Ceres Police Department said officers were dispatched to the Del Taco at Mitchell Road and Whitmore Avenue at 2:11 a.m. in response to a disturbance between two people.

Upon arrival, one of the individuals, later identified as Martin Moreno, 28, of Ceres, fled the scene in his car, said Sullivan.

Police pursued for about a mile before performing a P.I.T. maneuver while Moreno was turning onto Belleza Court. Within seconds of completing the maneuver, one of the officers shot Moreno, Sullivan said.

Sullivan did not indicate why the officer opened fire.

Moreno was immediately taken into custody and provided medical assistance at the scene. He was then transported to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Sullivan said.

Moreno will be booked into the Stanislaus County Jail upon his medical clearance and release from hospital.

The Ceres Police Department asked anyone with any information on the case to contact Detective Derek Perry at (209) 538- 5730 or email at derek.perry@ci.ceres.ca.us
