PLACERVILLE, CA - El Dorado County sheriff's deputies took suspected burglars into custody after a homeowner confronted them Monday afternoon.
The homeowner and his wife had just returned home to find an unknown car parked in their Wendsan Lane driveway, said Sgt. Danny Bears. The woman stepped into the home, heard a commotion and the suspected burglars jumped out of a two-story window.
The homeowner told responding deputies he saw one of the individuals holding one of his firearms and ordered him to stop, Bears said. Instead, the individuals got into their car and started it.
At that point, the homeowner, who had bee target practicing earlier in the day, grabbed a rifle from his truck and ordered the intruders to halt. Instead, Bears said, the homeowner told deputies the car's occupants continued to inch toward him, and fearing for his safety, he stepped away. As the intruders' drove away, the homeowner fired once into a tire of their car.
Deputies searched for the car in question and located it at Rosa Lane and Ponderosa Road where its occupants were taken into custody, according to Bears.
