SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The San Francisco Giants plan to send left-hander Barry Zito to the mound to face Tigers ace Justin Verlander in Game 1 of the best-of-seven title showdown.

San Francisco has home-field advantage thanks to the NL's victory in this summer's All-Star game.

Zito pitched the first of three National League Championship Series elimination games last Friday night, blanking the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0. The series went to seven games, with San Francisco earning its berth to the World Series with a Monday night 9-0 shut-out behind Matt Cain.

The Giants and well-rested Tigers were to work out Tuesday at AT&T Park ahead of Wednesday's Fall Classic opener.

Detroit has been off since completing a four-game ALCS sweep of the New York Yankees on Thursday.
