SACRAMENTO, CA (AP) - State prison officials say an inmate at a maximum security Sacramento-area prison has been killed and that his cellmate is being held as a suspect.
The 51-year-old inmate was found dead late Wednesday at California State Prison, Sacramento, which is located in Folsom.
He had been in prison since 2001 while serving a 25 years-to-life sentence from Contra Costa County for assault to commit a sex act.
The 46-year-old suspect, who was not identified because of the ongoing investigation, has been in prison since 1986. He is serving a 17 years-to-life sentence from Alameda County for second-degree murder.
The prison spokesman, Sgt. Tony Quinn, said Thursday that the two men were the only ones in the cell.
Officials are not releasing the name of the victim until they notify relatives.
