CARMICHAEL, CA - A young man previously arrested on suspicion of starting a fire at a vacant house on Sept. 23 is now believed to be behind six other intentionally-set fires in Carmichael and possibly eight others, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
District spokeswoman Michelle Eidam said Morgan McGinn, 18, admitted to arson investigators he set the following fires: Phoenix Preschool at 2921 Garfield Avenue on Aug. 17; debris fire at the Loma Linda Apartments at 5545 Marconi Avenue on Aug. 17; Montessori School at 5619 Marconi Avenue on Aug. 18; Carmichael Library at 5600 Marconi Avenue on Aug. 18; Carmichael Presbyterian Church at 5645 Marconi Avenue on Sept. 23; vacant house at 2937 Myrtle Lane on Sept. 23; and attempted arson to an occupied structure on Sept. 29. No one was hurt.
Investigators pegged the fire damage at an estimated $750,000, Eidam said.
McGinn's court appearance on five counts of felony arson and two counts of felony burglary was scheduled for Oct. 2.
His bail was set at $450,000.
