FAIRFIELD, CA - A caller impersonating a Pacific Gas & Electric representative has attempted to obtain personal information over the phone in a scam preying on delinquent customers recently.
According to Sergeant Randy Boggs of the Fairfield Police Dept., several Fairfield residents have reported being called by a person with a male voice saying the intended target's utilities bills were delinquent and required immediate payment via credit card to prevent discontinuation of services.
Legitimate PG&E representative said they do not call customers to collect credit card information.
The Fairfield Police Dept. warned citizens to be cautious when giving out their personal information in order to avoid being victimized by identity or credit card thieves.
PG&E billing inquiries can be made on-line at www.pge.com or by calling the customer service number at 1-800-743-5000.
