COLFAX, CA - A man died after what could be a drowning in the North Fork American River Saturday afternoon.
CPR was performed on the rafter after being pulled out of the river around 12:30 p.m., Grass Valley Cal Fire said.
The rafters were in the part of the river known as Chamberlain Falls when the raft hit some rapids, throwing some rafters into the water.
The victim, who is only being identified as a 59-year-old man, was assisting two rafters when it is believed that they hit another rapid. The victim was thrown into the water.
The man was found down river and pulled ashore where CPR was started.
When emergency units arrived at the Mineral Bar Campground, on Iowa Hill Road, the patient was decreased.
Cal Fire said the man was wearing a life vest.
The two other rafters did not sustain any injuries.
The rafter's body was taken to the Placer County Coroner's Office.
The coroner will perform an autopsy to determine if drowning was the cause of death.
