SACRAMENTO - A 17-year-old boy was arrested Sunday in connection with a homicide occurring Saturday night at a property on the 9500 block of Gerber Rd.

STORY: Man killed at suspected south Sacramento cockfighting facility

An investigation following the homicide revealed the youth had gone to the Gerber Rd. residence with the intent of committing a robbery, and during the incident, fatally assaulted 32-year-old Ronnie Smith, said Deputy Jason Ramos of the Sacramento Sheriff's Dept.

The suspected killer then went to a nearby property asking for help with injuries he had sustained during the assault, Ramos said.  The youth was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

After identifying the teen as a suspect in the ensuing investigation of the homicide, he was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on charges of murder and attempted robbery, said Ramos. His name and photograph were withheld due to his status as a juvenile.

This investigation is ongoing, and Homicide detectives are seeking to identify other individuals who may be connected to this incident. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Sheriff's Homicide detectives at (916) 874-5115.
