TRUCKEE, Calif. - A sinkhole opened up in the center divide of Interstate 80 in Truckee Friday morning, forcing the closure of the fast lanes in both directions.
Caltrans spokeswoman Gilbert Mohtes-Chan said the east and westbound directions were affected in the area of Donner Pass Rd. due to the 3-foot wide by 8-foot deep sinkhole that opened up during a paving project.
Caltrans and a contractor were working to repair the Interstate as quickly as possible, but the lanes were expected to remain closed through Friday afternoon, said Mohtes-Chan.
News10's Melissa Crowley reports the California Highway Patrol advises repairs could take 10 hours and to be prepared for delays in both directions.
The westbound lane was reopened by 10:45 a.m.
