CHICO, CA - A woman was arrested and a man is sought after an altercation with a Butte County sheriff's deputy in which a patrol car was rammed and the deputy was nearly stabbed on Thursday.
Sgt. Jeff Young of the Butte County Sheriff's Dept. said a deputy attempted to pull over a Mercury Cougar for a traffic violation at 12th St. and Hazel St. in Chico around 8:45 p.m. However, the vehicle sped off and the deputy pursued.
The driver of the Cougar tried to make a turn at Broadway and 12th St. when their vehicle spun out facing the patrol car. The driver of the Cougar then sped at the patrol car, ramming it head on, Young said.
The driver of the Cougar exited the vehicle and ran eastbound on 12th St. with a deputy in pursuit on foot, said Young.
According to Young, the other deputy attempted to remove a woman from the passenger seat of the Cougar and she tried to stab him with a fixed-blade knife.
The deputy was not cut and the woman, identified as Stephania Gulbronson, 25, was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing a peace officer and possession of hashish.
The driver of the Cougar managed to escape. Young said authorities are searching for 25-year-old Travis Farrell in connection with the incident.
