SACRAMENTO - So just how dangerous can it be behind the wheel when you hold the phone or text? Melissa Crowley took to a closed course with CHP in the Cal Expo parking lot to try three laps with and without texting.
The results weren't pretty.
The California Highway Patrol's zero-tolerance "Drive Now Text L8R"crackdown continues in 2012 to combat the effects of distracted driving displayed in Melissa's test results.
The policy, aimed at preventing texting or talking on a cell phone without a hands-free device, resulted in 111 tickets being issued within 24 hours on New Year's Eve.
TAKE THE PLEDGE NOT TO HANG UP AND DRIVE.
