Occupy Sacramento - Day 10

SACRAMENTO - 23 Occupy Sacramento protesters were arrested around 2:30 a.m. Thursday during a "First Amendment Party" at Cesar Chavez Park.

Since October 6, 2011, 110 Occupy supporters have been arrested in Sacramento. There are nine scheduled trials related to the arrests, in which the City of Sacramento will pursue six-month jail sentences for those charged with curfew violation.

Occupy members claim the First Amendment does not end at the imposed curfew time of 11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends, but a local ordinance has long been in place in Sacramento banning First Amendment activities in city parks at night.

Occupy members have filed a civil rights suit to support their right to protest.
