SOMERSET, CA - A dispute between a landlord and his tenant sent the tenant to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Sunday around 1:30 p.m.
El Dorado County sheriff's Lt. Bryan Golmitz said the victim, Ricky Laybourne, and his landlord, Robert Dickson, were having issues before Laybourne was attacked.
Laybourne told police his landlord sent unknown subjects to harass him at 6150 Outingdale Rd. and force him into leaving. He was hit with a blunt object several times by the subjects, Golmitz said.
When medics arrived at the scene, they determined that Laybourne needed to be life-flighted to a Sacramento hospital.
During the investigation, deputies went next door to talk to Dickson. Golmitz said Dickson refused to leave after being asked multiple times.
When Dickson eventually came to the door, he yelled profanities at the deputies and attempted to pull out a knife. Golmitz said the deputies perceived it as a threat and reached out to Dickson to order him to the ground. Dickson resisted arrest and fought with the deputy.
Other deputies on the scene released a K9 at Dickson to assist in taking him into custody, Golmitz said. The K9 bit Dickson and was taken into custody by deputies.
Dickson was taken to a Sacramento area hospital for treatment and remains in El Dorado County Sheriff's Department custody.
Deputies continue to investigate the case. Golmitz said deputies are working to identify the subjects involved in the beating.
Anyone with information is urged to call the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department at (530) 621-6600.
