STOCKTON, CA - Michelle Wright has not had any contact with the federal agents who showed up at her home early Tuesday morning, but she did return a phone call to News 10.

Wright said she would not be able to comment on several issues until she retained a lawyer, but did allow herself to be quoted on some for this news story.

Tuesday morning, Wright's estranged husband, Kenny Wright, and her three children were dragged from their home and placed in the back of a police car as Department of Education agents searched their home.

Kenny Wright said the federal agents were looking for Michelle Wright.

Michelle said she had no idea that federal agents were reportedly interested in her prior to an Office of the Inspector General raid on her Stockton home Tuesday.

Neighbors said they witnessed Michelle Wright's three children outside crying loudly while their father sat in a patrol car.

"I'm 110 percent shocked that federal agents showed up at my house and in the way that they did," Michelle Wright said.

Michelle Wright said that she has not seen her children, but did talk to her oldest son over the phone.

"He's hurting," Michelle Wright said. "My kids are traumatized."

Michelle Wright said she is unemployed, only working odd jobs, but not receiving unemployment or welfare assistance. She also said she is not enrolled in any college, school or classes of any kind at this time.

Michelle's brother and Kenneth Wright's brother often stayed at the home, but no one in the house has a violent criminal record.

"I was notified in the midst of everything," Michelle Wright said. "I was just terrified. I didn't think law enforcement would treat my children that way."

Michelle would not discuss her personal finances or why she thinks federal agents might be interested in her until after she speaks with a lawyer.

However, Michelle Wright said "looking back, a lot of things now look shady to me."

Michelle Wright also defended her estranged husband.

"Kenny is not involved in anything," Michelle said. "Kenny knows what Kenny knows."

No arrest warrant has been issued for Michelle or Kenneth Wright, said Kenneth Wright's attorney Mark Reichel.
