
SACRAMENTO, CA - World Autism Day on April 2 is set aside to raise awareness about the disease that is being diagnosed more frequently in children in the United States.
The prevalence of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade, and the disorder now affects one in every 150 children according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Thursday's events kick off a month long dedication to increasing awareness about the epidemic.
Local volunteers from Autism Speaks and the UC Davis M.I.N.D Institute will be at the State Capitol Thursday for an awareness fair and rally.
Thursday morning, Robin Hansen, Clinical Director at UC Davis M.I.N.D Institute appeared on News10 Good Morning to talk about the disease, and the importance of early diagnosis.
