DAVIS, CA - A University of California, Davis student was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of attempted rape and forced oral copulation, according to campus police. Criminal complaint
Capt. Joyce Souza said the alleged victim came to authorities this week regarding the alleged incidents involving Pierce Hunter. Souza said the alleged crimes took place in a campus dorm earlier this year and the young woman knew Pierce. She told detectives she had been hesitant to report what happened until another contact with Hunter this past weekend prompted her to come forward.
"When the victim decided that, yes, I want to forward with this, we were able to get the evidence that we needed and the district attorney felt comfortable filing the charges. And then the judge signed off on the warrant and we picked him up. And we did that very quickly because given the situation we were also a little concerned," Souza said. "Is this young man a threat to other people? Is his behavior becoming a little more esclated violence-wise?"
Souza did not say whether the alleged victim was another university student.
The 19-year-old Hunter, who is a sophomore, was booked into Yolo County Jail.
UC Davis swim team members told News10 Hunter was a member of the swim team but did not swim this past season.
Souza said considering the circumstances of the allegations, UC Davis police ask any other potential victims to contact them at (530) 754-6387.
