LAST-MINUTE TAX INFO: Get your tax forms and information for late filers
SACRAMENTO, CA - For those waiting until the last possible minute to file your 2009 tax return, the clock is ticking. And if you're in West Sacramento or Stockton -- or at least willing to drive there -- you've got until the stroke of midnight.
The U.S. Postal Service will have special extended hours for last-minute tax day mailers in the Sacramento and central valley areas Thursday.
The West Sacramento post office at 3775 Industrial Road and the Stockton location at 3131 Arch-Airport Road will each be collecting returns up until midnight, USPS spokesman Ralph Petty said. Meanwhile, north valley residents will be able to drop off returns at the Redding Main Post at 2323 Churn Creek Road until 9 p.m. Thursday.
If you just can't get your returns done by Thursday, filers can get more time to report their federal return by filing the form 4868 for an automatic extension through the Internal Revenue Service.
The extension gives taxpayers until Oct. 15 to file those returns.
You will only receive an acknowledgement that the IRS received your request if you e-file or Free File the request.
