WOODLAND, CA - An 18-year-old Woodland youth was sentenced to 55 years to life in prison Monday for a gang-related park shooting that left one person seriously injured, according to the Yolo County District Attorney's Office.

Last month, a Yolo County Superior Court jury found Ramiro Leon Jr. guilty of attempted murder, criminal street gang activity, and firearms-related enhancements for the drive-by shooting at Campbell Park in September 2008.

Prosecutors claimed Leon's actions stemmed from gang tension earlier in the day on a school bus coming from Cache Creek Continuation High School. Leon was accused of firing several times from a car into the park, striking one victim and barely missing another person sitting in a parked car.
