ANTIOCH, CA - A juvenile was shot near Deer Valley High School in Antioch Tuesday morning, police said.
Officers responded to Sagebrush Drive near Prewitt Ranch Road at 8:30 a.m. and found the victim shot multiple times. He was transported to a hospital by helicopter. Police did not have an update on his condition.
Police Lt. Leonard Orman said the shooting followed an exchange of words between several people in a car and a group the victim was part of. The shots were fired from inside the car, he said.
No one has been apprehended in the shooting.
A woman answering the phone in the Antioch Unified School District superintendent's office said the shooting prompted a lockdown at Deer Valley and other schools in the district.
She said at about 10 a.m. that the lockdown was being lifted at all schools.
She could not confirm reports that the shooting victim is a student.
