SIERRAVILLE, CA - Sierra County search teams Saturday found the wreckage of a small plane and a body believed to be that of a Truckee pilot missing since Wednesday, Sierra County officials said.
Saturday morning, members of the Civil Air Patrol spotted the possible aircraft debris field in a heavily wooded area east of Sierraville, according to Nevada County Sheriff's Lt. John Kropp.
When searchers with the Sierra County Sheriff's office and the CHP reached the scene around 2:45 p.m., they confirmed the wreckage was that of pilot Clayton Beck's single-engine, two-seater RV-6 experimental aircraft.
Kropp said one body was also found in the wreckage. A Sierra sheriff's spokesperson confirmed Sunday the body had been identified, but the results had not yet been released.
Nevada County sheriff's deputies said Beck, 37, was reported missing by his wife Lisa after he failed to return home Wednesday afternoon after what was expected to be a short flight around the Truckee area.
Investigators with the Sierra County Sheriff's Office along with the Federal Aviation Adminstration and the National Transportation Safety Board were looking into the cause of the crash.
