SACRAMENTO - An SUV crashed into a power pole and ended up in a Vacaville field late Thursday morning, leaving a teenage boy dead, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Friday, the Solano County coroner said the boy was 15-year-old Alex Osuna of Vacaville.
The CHP said the driver, a 16-year-old boy, was able to get out of the black Chevy Trailblazer which overturned, heavily damaging the roof. The driver was transported to an area hospital. His condition/injuries were unknown.
The CHP said the driver, also from Vacaville, did not have a driver's license.
The boys were speeding on eastbound Clark Road when their SUV clipped the power pole and vaulted over a ditch, said the CHP.
Emergency responders declared Osuna dead at the scene.
The teens were wearing seatbelts.
The CHP's initial investigation suggests speed and driving inexperience were factors in the crash. Alcohol and rugs were not suspected.
The first 911 call for the crash came in at 11:34 a.m. and was reported at Clark and Fry roads.
The power pole was sheared off at its base.
