Solano County deputy's car totaled in wreck.
FAIRFIELD - What started out as a chase ended in a huge accident with a Solano County Sheriff's deputy being extricated from his car and taken to the hospital.
It all started around 7:30 Wednesday evening when a deputy chased after a stolen vehicle east along Highway 12. He was followed by another deputy.
Solano County Sheriff's department said the driver of the stolen car tried to make a sharp turn at Pennsylvania Ave., missed and crashed into a field.
The deputy crashed his car into a light pole along Highway 12 by Pennsylvania Avenue.
The accident was so bad, the deputy had to be cut out of his car.
As for the the two people in the stolen car, deputies said the woman was arrested immediately, but the man took off.
With the help of a CHP helicopter, authorities were able to find the man about an hour later.
The sheriff's department said the deputy who was injured will survive his injuries.
"We are all very relieved that his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. Obviously he's in our thoughts and prayers along with his family. We hope for the best for that young man," said Deputy Daryl Snedeker.
Sheriff's deputies said the high-speed chase lasted for about five miles before both cars wrecked.
