Jeremy Wood, 28, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.
MODESTO, Calif. - A Modesto City Schools substitute teacher was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a student Tuesday.
Modesto police spokesperson Ivan Valencia said Jeremy Wood, 28, was a substitute paraprofessional at Beyer High School when he first met the victim. She was 16 years old at the time.
Wood's relationship with the, now, 17-year-old student, was discovered after text messages between the two were found on his phone. After it was reported to police on Sunday, investigators confiscated Wood's phone and interviewed the victim, Valencia said.
Wood was arrested on Tuesday near his home on charges of statutory rape; he was booked into Stanislaus County Jail.
