SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Two people were taken to the hospital after a police chase ended in a crash near eastbound Highway 160 and Richards Boulevard.

Sacramento police said one of the people in the car was wanted for felony warrants. Officers tried to pull the car over around 4:04 p.m., but the driver continued driving to evade police.

The chase ended around 4:40 p.m. when the driver rammed into three police cars after driving over spike strips.

"The tires had lost air as a result of spike strips that had been deployed and the suspect got onto the freeway here and lost control of his vehicle," Lt. Charles Husted said.

The driver and the passenger were taken to the hospital to get treatment. It is unclear who was wanted on the felony warrants.

Traffic in the area was backed up for miles as police investigated and cleaned up the crash scene.
