SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Family members are asking for help from the public to find answers in the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy.

Darron "D.J." Lee died Friday nearly two weeks after he was shot near the corner of San Juan Road and Bandon Way in Natomas in November. Now as his family makes funeral arrangements, they're hoping someone out there can give them information on what led up to his death.

Almost a week after her son's death, a memorial continues to grow on the sidewalk outside Audrey Crigler's home. Family members said Lee was spending the weekend at a friend's house in Natomas when he took a quick trip by himself to a nearby store. Moments later friends heard gunshots. Soon Crigler got a call from police.

"He was like, he's at UC Davis Hospital, and you need to get there immediately," Crigler remembered police telling her.

She found her son unconscious in his hospital bed. She said doctors explained that Lee had been shot in the leg, but also suffered a serious head injury and needed surgery right away.

"The surgery went well, but he had a lot of brain damage going on, wasn't functioning," Crigler said.

Lee held on for several days, but died Friday.

Crigler is hoping someone out there can help track down the killer.

"That's why I want to get this out because I want to know, why did you do this to my son, or who did this to him?" Crigler said. "My son is never going to come back. My kids don't even have their brother anymore."

Though nothing can stop the grief, answers could provide some comfort for Lee's loved ones.

"If anybody knows anything, please, I beg, please, from me and his father, please tell us something, or just come forward and let us know," Crigler said.

In connection with this homicide investigation detectives are looking for boxy 90s vehicle, possibly a gray or dark blue sedan with a ski rack on top.

If you have any information, you're asked to contact the Sacramento Police Department.
