SACRAMENTO - A Modesto resident discovered what the county coroner and police detectives say is a partial human skull in his front yard Friday afternoon.
The remains were found on the 800 block of Marshall Avenue, according to police Sgt. Ivan Valencia.
The resident contacted authorities who initiated a search that evening for any additional evidence. On Saturday, accompanied by three search and rescue dogs, detectives talked to neighbors and searched backyards, vacant lots, nearby open fields, alleys and canal banks. Valencia said no other evidence was found.
The skull's gender, age and race were not known.
Police think a small animal, such as a bird or dog, deposited the human remains.
Anyone who has information about the remains that might help investigators was asked to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636.
