SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A car crashed through a bar in South Land Park Thursday evening, narrowly missing nearly two dozen people inside the bar.

Bartender Scott Miller still can't believe how close he was to being hit. He had been standing at the jukebox, right where the car smashed through the wall.

"I walk over here and played a song," Miller recounted. "Walked behind to the bar and it hit. It sounded like a bomb went off."

A few more seconds at that jukebox could have cost him his life.

Amazingly, no one in the crowded Brownie's Lounge was hurt. Miller said there were about 20 customers inside at the time.

"The jukebox projected out. The car came in about five feet inside, shot the juke box against the bar," explained Miller. "And there were customers on the right, and the left and it hit three empty seats people did not occupy."

Police don't know what caused the driver to plow through this vacant business, smash through the wall and into Brownie's Lounge on 5858 S Land Park Dr.

Witnesses said the driver was wearing a medical boot and told them it got caught in the accelerator.

"Thank God no one was killed," owner Clair Brown said. "The damage can be repaired, but no one was injured, nobody got a scratch. Just grace of God that happened."

Brown said clean up will begin immediately. He hopes to reopen the bar as soon as possible.
