SACRAMENTO - A Modesto man was arrested last week for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Turlock girl he met through the photo-sharing website Instagram, say police.

Turlock Officer Mayra Lewis said their investigation began when a concerned citizen reported the alleged. The girl was found upset outside of her home the evening of Nov. 24 because she had sneaked out to met 22-year-old suspect Eladio Ramirez and when she returned home, her family was home and she was afraid to go inside.

Investigators say Ramirez began commenting on the girl's posted Instagram pictures and that began a conversation between the two.

Lewis said the girl and Ramirez met four times in the past month.

Ramirez was arrested on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse, two charges of sodomy, penetration with a foreign object, and two charges of lewd and lascivious behavior, Lewis said. She added it was the first case related to Instagram the Turlock Police Department has investigated.

Lewis urged parents to keep track of what their children are doing on the Internet by monitoring their social media sites, their followers and friends; making sure all privacy settings are in place and limiting their time online.
