SACRAMENTO - A man attempting to walk across Interstate 80 in Sacramento died after being hit by four vehicles Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 4:24 a.m. when a 36-year-old Oakland man in a white, 1993 Toyota rear-ended a big rig, causing him to lose control and crash into the concrete center divide.
The man exited the Toyota and began walking across the interstate toward the shoulder when he was hit by the right mirror of a white, 2007 Volvo XC90. A white 2007 Volkswagen Jetta then struck the man again. Two additional vehicle also struck the man, per the CHP.
Arriving emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 32-year-old woman was transported to the Mercy San Juan Hospital with minor injuries.
A toxicology report will determine whether alcohol and/or drugs is a contributing factor in this collision. The collision is still under investigation.

Two lanes of the interstate were closed during the incident. They were reopened be 7:50 a.m.
