SACRAMENTO - A man suspected in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend in Winters last month was arrested in Las Vegas Tuesday morning after a lengthy standoff with authorities.

William Carl Gardner III barricaded himself, along with a woman and small child in an apartment complex on the 4800 block of E. Tropicana Ave. Monday night after being located by authorities, said Winters Police Chief Sergio Gutierrez.

U.S. Marshals and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. surrounded the building for more than six hours before successfully convincing Gardner to surrender peacefully around 12:45 a.m., said Gutierrez.

Gardner was wanted in California for the murder of 32-year-old Leslie Pinkston as she sat in her car in a Winters parking lot the morning of Nov. 18.
