ORANGEVALE, Calif. - Firefighters responded to the third early morning garage fire in Orangevale over the past two weeks Monday morning.
Sacramento Metropolitan Battalion Chief Patrick Ellis said an elderly man woke to use the restroom and heard a noise outside his home on Blythe Way. When he looked outside to investigate, the man saw his garage on fire and got his two other family members out of the home quickly.
Crews arrived at the scene after 5:30 a.m. to find a well-involved garage fire that extended into the house and up to the attic and roof.
Crews quickly contained the fire within the home but the roof's composition of metal on top of wood shake proved difficult to extinguish, said Ellis.
"We're concerned about it just by virtue of the fact that within two square miles, we've had three early morning garage fires," said Ellis."
Arson investigators later determined the cause of the fire to be arson, according to a Sac Metro Fire public information officer.
