SACRAMENTO - There's no debating the sentimental value of gathering the family around the table for Thanksgiving dinner, but is it the most economical option?
Cheapism.com broke down the different costs and options for Thanksgiving this year. They found that if you're feeding eight people and you purchase all of your items at a grocery store, it's going to cost you about $89.99. However, if you go to a restaurant chain and order takeout that consists of all the same items for those 8 people, it would cost you $79.99.
If you want to avoid meal prep and cleanup entirely, you can just eat out, and that can actually be cheaper than take out. Cracker Barrel for example is offering a Thanksgiving dinner that costs $8.99 for adults and $4.69 for children.
The most costly option is making a Thanksgiving dinner from scratch which will run you $105.59 to serve 8 people.
When it comes to your Thanksgiving presentation, the cheapest option seems to be just getting the essentials at the grocery store. That would be the roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and dinner rolls, and excluding all of the side dishes. That will cost you $44.99 for 8 people.
If you chose the restaurant option, just remember paying the tip will add a bit to the overall bill.
One of the reasons people will be going to restaurants this year for Thanksgiving is because it takes the stress away from having to make everything at home in your kitchen.
