SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A major San Francisco Bay Area transit agency says train service has been restored, although delays are expected throughout the system.

Bay Area Rapid Transit officials made the announcement around 7:15 a.m. Friday. Train service was shut down after a computer problem occurred shortly after midnight.

BART spokesman Jim Allison says computer systems were not communicating properly with track switches that route trains.

BART normally resumes services at 4 a.m., and at least some commuters were forced to find alternate ways of reaching their destinations.

Trains were running at half capacity and ramping up to full capacity throughout the next hour.
