MODESTO, CA - A Modesto woman was unloading groceries from her car in her garage with the garage door open Monday morning when two men with guns suddenly confronted her.
She said she had taken some groceries into her house and was returning for more in her car when the intruders showed up.
They forced the 51-year-old woman into her home on the 2400 block of Manor Oak Drive and demanded money, according to the Modesto Police Department.
This was a little before 11:25 a.m.
She complied and she told officers the robbers made her go into a closet while they ransacked her home.
She reported hearing a gunshot fired in her home before the two men stole her blue Toyota Highlander SUV. The Highlander was last seen heading east on Manor Oak Drive.
"They found some money and fired a shot to intimidate her into telling where more money was," said the woman's husband Arne. He didn't provide a last name.
Police spokesperson Heather Graves said a purse, TV, computer and cash were taken.
Arne said the men even discussed shooting his wife while she was in the closet.
"One wanted to shoot her but the other guy said, 'Don't do that, don't do that.' The other guy prevailed in not harming her," Arne said."
The robbers were described as black, in their 20s, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds each.
