Sacramento City Animal Shelter
SACRAMENTO, CA - A huge push to encourage folks to adopt dogs, cats and other critters from four Sacramento-area animal shelters last weekend was hugely successful.
Lesley Kirene, spokesperson for the Sacramento SPCA, says the Oct. 18-20 "Empty the Shelter" event resulted in 506 kittens, puppies, cats and dogs and 19 rabbits and chickens going to new homes. The 2013 adoption event was Sacramento's largest and the number of adoptions far surpassed similar events coordinated by 36 animal rescue groups in other cities across the U.S.
"This event was a great motivator for our organizations and members of our community to help the many wonderful cats, dogs and other animals in our shelters find homes," said Rick Johnson, Sacramento SPCA CEO. "In just three days, we were able to save hundreds of animals and bring joy to adopting families."
Sacramento SPCA, city of Sacramento Front Street Shelter, Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary and Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation participated.
