MODESTO, CA - A neighborhood is on edge after two men at a home were tied up and robbed and one of them kidnapped.

With no witnesses other than the victims, and only a vague description of suspects wearing masks, police are hoping someone will come forward with information to help investigators.

Word spread fast about the overnight attack on the 800 block of Bristlecone Way. Modesto police said at least five masked robbers tied up the two men in their home.

Now, some neighbors fear they could be next.

"What if there were kids in that house, and they hurt one of the kids, so it is kind of scary," said Brandi Costa who lives down the street from the victims' home.

Police said only two men were home when the attackers, armed with an assault rifle and a handgun, forced their way into the house and demanded money and jewelry. The robbers took one of the victims with them. The other victim ended up knocking on Miguel Cardenas' front door.

"Well, I was kind of freaked out," Cardenas said. "The guy, his face was all covered in blood, so it was like, what's going on, you know."

The robbers eventually released the other man a few miles away. So far, there's nothing to indicate the victims knew their attackers, and the seemingly random nature of the crime has many worried.

"We need to stay inside the house and check with the neighbors," neighbor Daniel Rodriguez. "We need to be safe."

Both victims suffered cuts in the attack, but they are expected to be okay. Meanwhile police said they're increasing patrols and contacting neighbors to raise awareness about the case.
