TRUCKEE, CA - A Placerville man lost his life in a crash on Interstate 80 east of the Soda Springs exit Monday morning.
The name of the 24-year-old victim has not been released. His 22-year-old passenger, also from Placerville, suffered a broken wrist and cuts and bruises.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer G.E. Graham, it was 6:55 in the morning when the victim, behind the wheel of a 2004 Ford F-250 pick-up, let his truck veer off the interstate's eastbound lanes and down over an embankment. The pick-up struck several large boulders and overturned, lodging against another boulder.
The passenger was able to crawl out of the truck and climb up to the roadside where passing drivers saw him and called for help.
The driver was pinned in the truck and did not survive major injuries, Graham said, adding that neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors in the crash.
