DeMarcus Cousins officially signs a 4-Year, $62-Million deal.
SACRAMENTO, CA - A humble, grateful and now extremely wealthy DeMarcus Cousins took the press conference stage Monday morning after officially signing a new four year contract extension worth 62-million dollars.
"I'm blessed to be in this situation. I am extremely happy. I am glad we finally got this done," said Cousins. "I like what this organization is going. I believe in it."
As promised by the Kings new ownership, the move makes Cousins the center piece of the franchise.
"DeMarcus is really the foundation of this family at this point," said Kings lead owner Vivek Ranadive. "I think of DeMarcus is the prototypical 21st century player. He is one of the most talented big men in the business."
Along with the big contract, last week the Kings added Shaquille O'Neal to the ownership group. Shaq will also serve as a huge mentor to Cousins.
"Shaq told me you have to stop reading (press clippings)," said Cousins. "He (Shaq) was reading when he played, and they (media) said all he does is dunk, so the next game he came out and started shooting fade aways, and it didn't make any sense."
The Kings open training camp at U.C. Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
