DAVIS, CA - Davis police say officers made a visit to the home of a woman Thursday who is suspected in the death of her daughter later that day.

STORY: Davis mother suspected in the death of 5-year-old daughter

According to police Lt. Paul Doroshov, an officer happened to make a traffic stop around 9 a.m. on an unrelated party in front of the Glide Drive residence of Aquelin Talamantes, the mother. Relatives of Talamantes said she walked out of her home to the officer and said she couldn't take care of her children.

The officer called for help from the police department, Doroshov said. Other officers arrived and talked to Talamantes for about 30 to 40 minutes. Doroshov said they reported not finding any indications of abuse of Talamantes' daughter Tatiana and the home was clean. The officers left.

About 2:30 Thursday afternoon, relatives of Talamantes call Sacramento police when she arrived at their Pocket Road (Sacramento) apartment without her daughter. Responding officers found the little girl in the trunk of Talamante's Honda. Despite life-saving efforts, the child died later at a local hospital.

The Davis Police Department says the actions and response of their agency will be investigated as part of the full investigation into what happened.
