Mountain lion shot and killed in homeowner's yard near Turlock, July 22, 2012
LINCOLN, CA - There was a sighting of a mountain lion in an area surrounded by residences in Lincoln Wednesday afternoon, according to local authorities.
The big cat was seen about 12:40 p.m. in Auburn Ravine Park between Lincoln Boulevard and Joiner Parkway south of the dog park, said city spokesperson Jill Thompson.
Officers say the mountain lion that they are searching for is about the size of K-9. They say its unusual to see a mountain lion during the day because they are nocturnal animals.
"Don't turn your back to the animal. Scream yell try to scare the animal away," said Sergeant David Ibarra.
Police officers were in the area looking for the mountain lion. Officials urged residents to use caution in the park area and to leave if a mountain lion is seen and call 911.
