SACRAMENTO - Two members of a construction crew working at 15th Street. and Jefferson Boulevard were critically injured in an on-site accident Wednesday morning.
A West Sacramento Police Lt. on scene said the crew was using heavy machinery to lower steel support beams into the ground when the chain holding one of the beams snapped.
The beam broke free, striking one man in the leg and the other in the head, said police.
Emergency response crews were called to the scene and transported both men to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.
Inspectors from PG&E and Cal OSHA arrived at the scene a short while later to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
