ELK GROVE, CA - Three girls who were reported missing from Elk Grove Friday afternoon were found later that night.

Asia Smith, 10, Barbara Smith, 10, and Zuri Hurtz, 8, were last seen in the area of 9000 Willowberry Way around 11 a.m. and reported missing at 5:45 p.m., Elk Grove police said.

Family friend Beverly Tukes said the girls went missing after their grandfather gave them a time out for not cleaning their room. He went to do the laundry, and didn't see them when he came back out.

Tukes said the grandfather didn't alert authorities right away because he thought they may have been with other family members. This was the fist time the girls have ever done anything like this.

Elk Grove police said a resident last saw the girls around 2 p.m. at the 8100 block of Laguna Brook Way walking westbound.

Police said they did not suspect foul play in the girls' disappearance. Earlier in the day a helicopter was used to search for the girls while officers continued to search the area on the ground.

Police said the three girls were found safe and will be reunited with their family.
