Sacramento County sheriff's deputies respond to a shooting on the 3400 block of Madison Avenue in North Highlands that left two injured, Sept. 10, 2013.
NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA - Sacramento County sheriff's deputies are in the area of the 3800 block of Madison Avenue investigating a double shooting.
Sheriff's Lt. Tim Curran said two males were shot at an apartment complex. One was wounded in an upstairs landing and the other was shot downstairs near a stairwell. One of the individuals was shot in the head and body. The other suffered a body wound.
Both were transported to the hospital. Their conditions were unknown.
It wasn't clear if sheriff's personnel had a description of the shooter or shooters.
Curran said it was also learned another person with multiple gunshot wounds arrived at a hospital. Investigators did not know yet if that was related to the Madison Avenue shooting.
Madison Elementary School on nearby Harrison Street was placed on lockdown as a precaution. A Twin Rivers Unified School District spokesperson said the lockdown was lifted after 45 minutes.
Sheriff's spokesperson Sharon Chow said the first 911 call was received at 3:30 p.m.
