SUISUN CITY - Police arrested a man in connection with an in-progress home invasion robbery and shooting early Saturday morning in Suisun City.
At about 1 a.m., police received a frantic call from a resident on Keyes Lane, near Potrero Circle, reporting that a suspect had entered a residence and shot a man.
The caller said the suspect was still inside the home, police said.
Suisun City police officers responded to the residence and located the suspect in front of the home.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Juan C. Walker, of Menlo Park, was taken into custody. Walker's firearm was recovered and he was arrested for attempted murder, police said.
The victim, identified by police as a man in his 60s, was located in the master bedroom of the residence with a single gunshot wound to his upper right chest, police said. Police rendered first aid to the victim until medics arrived. The victim was then transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery. As of Saturday afternoon, the victim remained in critical condition.
According to the police investigation, Walker had been trying to steal a car and randomly picked the victim's home. He broke into the home and confronted the victim and his wife in their bedroom. The suspect and victim then left the bedroom together.
"I'm not sure if the suspect led the victim out of the room or if the victim tried to get the suspect out of the room to care for his family, so that if anything happened, it happened away from his family," Suisun City Police Cmdr. Tim Mattos said.
Walker was booked into Solano County Jail, police said.
